Congratulations on your admission! Welcome to Shizuoka University.
Shizuoka University has the Shizuoka Main Library (Shizuoka Campus) and the Hamamatsu Branch Library (Hamamatsu Campus).
This webpage summarizes what freshmen should know when using the library for the first time.

Using the Library!

  • Please bring your student ID card when entering the library. Freshman who have not yet received your student ID card may also enter. Please inform the library staff at the entrance gate.
  • You need your student ID card to borrow books from the library. After your card has been issued, you may borrow books with it.
  • Please check the library calendar on the library website or bulletin boards for the opening hours.
  • Undergraduate students may borrow 7 books(trial) for a maximum of 2 weeks. You may renew the loan period once. The checkout limit and loan period for graduate students are different. For more details, please see the Shizuoka main library user’s guide or the Hamamatsu branch user’s guide on our website.

What things you can do at the library.

  • The Shizuoka main library holds about 880,000 and the Hamamatsu branch holds about 310,000 volumes of books. Many journals and newspapers are also available. Materials on the open shelves in the reading rooms are freely accessible, and many items in the closed stacks can be used as well.
  • You can place a request on books located at another campus library. In addition, if the Shizuoka University library doesn’t have the book you are looking for, you can borrow materials from other libraries through interlibrary loan.
  • You can use the various facilities in the library. For more information, please see the Shizuoka main library floor guide or the Hamamatsu branch floor guide on the library website.
  • Wireless LAN connectivity to the campus network is available at all library locations. You can connect your wireless devices (laptop, smartphone, etc.) to the campus Wi-Fi.
  • At the Shizuoka main library, you can borrow a laptop for use within the library. A student ID card is required to borrow a laptop.
  • At the Hamamatsu branch library, laptops are available for use in the PC work area.

What is ‘Lib★Navi’ ?

  • ‘Lib★Navi (Library Navigator)’ is a guidebook for using the Shizuoka University Library. It is one of the materials of guidance for freshmen.
  • We use ‘Lib★Navi’ as a reference material in the Library Seminar for freshmen.
  • If you have any questions about using the library, please refer to ‘Lib★Navi’.

What online services can we use?

  • You can search for materials held in Shizuoka University Library using the OPAC. The OPAC is an online search tool that allows you to look up materials available in the library anytime and from anywhere.
  • In addition to printed books and journals, you can access electronic Journals, e-books, and databases subscribed to by the Shizuoka University Library. Some of these resources can be used off campus with your own Shizuoka University’s Microsoft365 account (Last Name.First Name.26@shizuoka.ac.jp) and password.
  • ‘myLibrary’ is an online service which you can apply renewing the loan period, requesting books or photocopies of journal articles from other libraries, etc. You need your Shizuoka University’s Microsoft365 account (Last Name.First Name.26@shizuoka.ac.jp) and password to use ‘myLibrary’.
  • You can find library information on the Shizuoka University Library website and our Official X account. On X, we share useful information and various updates about the library. Please follow us!

What is ‘the Student Advisory Group’?
